    Smith & Porter is seeking an Cook to join the team.  Smith & Porter is located in Abiitan, an Ecumen senior housing community situated in the heart of the Mill City neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis.


    Smith & Porter is open to the public and is comprised of a restaurant and bar, a café, catering services, and a private dining room, totaling 120-seats. Smith & Porter also supports The Terraces, Abiitan's Memory Care and Assisted Living suites, by providing those who live there three meals a day. Smith & Porter's goal is to make every meal special. We feature high quality, locally sourced ingredients prepared to the best of our ability. Not all restaurants in Minneapolis take our made-from-scratch approach, but it's important to us, because quality matters. Smith and Porter offers an upscale experience in a casual setting. Our restaurant is just steps from countless attractions including; the Stone Arch Bridge, Gold Medal Park, Saint Anthony Falls, The Guthrie Theater, US Bank Stadium and other local attractions.


    Abiitan, an entrance deposit community, consists of 77 independent living residences as well as an additional floor of residences for those requiring memory care and/or assisted living.

    The Cook is responsible for proper food prep, cooking and service of food while recognizing special diets, resident’s dietary needs and requests. Maintains work area in proper order and follows established policies and procedures of the facility while demonstrating high levels of service. Complies with all federal and state regulations.


    Essential job responsibilities include:

    1. Provides exemplary service to our residents, families and guests, ensuring all feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service.

    2. Preps, prepares, cooks and serves meals to residents, families, guests and employees. Properly operates and maintains all equipment in the food preparation area.  Reports production shortages/overages to the supervisor immediately.

    3. Accurately follows directions and recipes. Ability to convert recipes for various size groups.  Follows production guidelines for best product usage, portion control and use of leftovers.

    4. Maintains adequate inventory of food and supplies notifying supervisor if they are missing something.

    5. Maintains a clean, sanitary, safe and efficiently organized work area. Products will be labeled, dated and rotated ensuring an adequate, fresh inventory of food and supplies. Assists with stock and putting away groceries as directed.

    6. Partners with department leaders to maintain awareness of facility special events and activities to ensure adequate product and labor are available.

    7. Ensures residents with special diets receive appropriate food. Accommodates resident requests promptly.

    8. Demonstrates proper safety and sanitation techniques as part of the work.

    9. Partners effectively with others in a demanding and changing environment, supports all employees within the community as directed by the leadership team.
