    Smith & Porter is seeking an Assistant General Manager to join its staff. Smith & Porter is comprised of a restaurant and bar, a café and catering services, as well as two private dining rooms, totalling 120-seats.  It is located in Abiitan, an Ecumen senior housing development situated in the heart of the Mill City neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis.

    Responsibilities

    The Assistant General Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the restaurant in the absence of the General Manager and to otherwise support the General Manager in all facets of running the restaurant. This position is responsible for assisting with managing the food and beverage operations within budget and to the highest levels of service. Ensuring excellent levels of internal and external customer service. The AGM is responsible for the front of house as it relates to all aspects of food and beverage service.

     

    Essential job responsibilities include:

     

    1. Works in conjunction with all members of the leadership team and staff ensuring that we consistently demonstrate the responsible service and sale of alcohol and all required staff are properly trained.

    2. Manages restaurant front of house staff holding them accountable to the policies and procedures of the department.

    3. Ensures quality meals are presented, and served to residents, families, guests, patrons and employees.

    4. Ensures all customers, residents and patrons both internal and external feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.

    5. Produces the staffing schedule, hires, supervises, trains and mentors restaurant staff to maintain adequate staffing.

    6. Assists all workers and positions in the restaurant; identifies what needs to be done and assists as needed.

    7. Maintains a clean sanitary work area, complies with state and federal rules and regulations, and follows established policies, procedures and practices of the facility.

    8. Partners with department leaders to maintain awareness of facility special events and activities to ensure adequate product and labor are available.

    9. Successfully manages assigned responsibilities – like labor costs, bar cost, etc. Ensures proper rotation of stock levels.

    10. Properly operates food equipment in the food preparation area, and other equipment used by the dining department. Trains staff on proper use of equipment. Contacts vendors for service as needed.

    Qualifications

    Assistant General Manager

    Minimum Required Qualifications:

     

    • High School graduate or GED
    • Certified Food Manager in accordance with MN Department of Health
    • 2+ years full service restaurant management experience

    • Current valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance (if applicable)
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to follow all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility including but not limited to: Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy, HIPAA, Resident’s Bill of Rights, Universal Precaution, AWAIR, OSHA, Right to know, SDS, ADA, HUD Policy and Procedures, Fair Housing laws and regulations
