Overview

Abiitan, a new Ecumen development located in the heart of the Mill City neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis, is seeking a Cook to join their Porter Cafe team. Abiitan, an entrance deposit community, consists of approximately 86 independent living residences, as well as an additional floor of residences for those requiring memory care. Attached to Abiitan are Smith & Porter Restaurant and Bar, and Porter Cafe. Porter Cafe is open from 7am-4pm daily and serves breakfast and lunch. Smith & Porter is a full service restaurant and bar that is open daily at 4pm.

 

Ecumen creates home for older adults wherever they choose to live and Abiitan is the newest and most innovative senior living concept in the upper Midwest. Abiitan will offer its residents the pinnacle of service and location. Abiitan is one block from the Mississippi river, 2 blocks from the Guthrie theater, and just steps away from all the cultures, arts, and events that downtown living can offer. Abiitan will also offer a restaurant, a fully licensed bar, a coffee shop, a fitness center in collaboration with 501 Fit open to the public, two courtyard areas, and a rooftop patio facing downtown Minneapolis sky line.

Responsibilities

The Cook is responsible for proper food prep, cooking and service of food while recognizing special diets, resident’s dietary needs and requests. Maintains work area in proper order and follows established policies and procedures of the facility while demonstrating high levels of service. Complies with all federal and state regulations.

 

Essential job responsibilities include:

 
  1. Provides exemplary service to our residents, families and guests, ensuring all feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service.

  2. Preps, prepares, cooks and serves meals to residents, families, guests and employees. Properly operates and maintains all equipment in the food preparation area.  Reports production shortages/overages to the supervisor immediately.

  3. Accurately follows directions and recipes. Ability to convert recipes for various size groups.  Follows production guidelines for best product usage, portion control and use of leftovers.

  4. Maintains adequate inventory of food and supplies notifying supervisor if they are missing something.

  5. Maintains a clean, sanitary, safe and efficiently organized work area. Products will be labeled, dated and rotated ensuring an adequate, fresh inventory of food and supplies. Assists with stock and putting away groceries as directed.

  6. Partners with department leaders to maintain awareness of facility special events and activities to ensure adequate product and labor are available.

  7. Ensures residents with special diets receive appropriate food. Accommodates resident requests promptly.

  8. Demonstrates proper safety and sanitation techniques as part of the work.

  9. Partners effectively with others in a demanding and changing environment, supports all employees within the community as directed by the leadership team.
