Responsibilities

The Human Resources Intern will directly assist the HR Business Partner - Corporate with a wide range of projects related to HR compliance, recruiting, applicant tracking, intranet content and future intern programs. This internship will be both educational and practical. This position will provide a good understanding of the role Human Resources plays in a non-profit setting, making the Intern better prepared to work in Human Resources and the non-profit sector. The intern will also have opportunities to network with other areas within the Human Resources department (Benefits, Organizational Development and Training), the operations department (clinical employees), and IT.

 

Primary responsibilities for the HR Intern include:

 

  1. Gather job descriptions from the Ecumen communities and draft consistent language for corporate-wide job descriptions corresponding to newly created job titles.
  2. Research best practice interview questions and practices. Incorporate into Interview Guides to be used by hiring managers and HR designees.
  3. Provide support and problem solving to the field HR designees and hiring managers in the applicant tracking system (iCims).
  4. Draft a proposal for a High School Internship program providing opportunities for juniors and seniors to learn about and experience careers in senior services.
  5. Update and distribute the policy and procedure manual as directed by the HR Business Partner – Corporate.
  6. Update content on the HR page of the intranet.

 

 

While participating in the projects listed above, the Human Resources intern will learn the practical application of:

 

  1. The end-to-end process of recruiting and hiring using an applicant tracking system.
  2. The importance of employment law and compliance especially as reflected and communicated in policy and procedure.
  3. Best practice interview questions and techniques and the importance and impact of employment law and compliance when interviewing.
  4. The components of job descriptions including job summary, essential job responsibilities, qualifications and physical requirements.
  5. End-to-end best practices for managing a variety of employee relations issues, and the importance and impact of employment law and compliance.

Qualifications

Human Resources Intern

Minimum Required Qualifications:

 

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources (Please see section below that pertains to specific requirements.)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications
  • Understanding of, and passion for, a broad range of Human Resources topics
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including written and verbal skills.
  • Work well, both individually and as part of a team, through respect, collaboration, and dedication, and successfully interact with a diverse culture base.
  • Current valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance, if applicable

 

Based on funding from the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) for this position, a candidate must meet the following qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma
  • Student must be enrolled in, or graduated from, a Lutheran Educational Conference of North America (LECNA) School, OR be an active member of an ELCA congregation, OR have a connection to the ELCA. For example, participating in a youth program at an ELCA church, or attending one of the following listed schools:
    • Concordia University
    • Augsburg College
    • St. Olaf College
    • Gustavus Adolphus College
    • Concordia College, Moorhead

Preferred Qualifications:
