Abiitan, a new Ecumen development located in the heart of the Mill City neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis, is seeking a General Manager-Food & Beverage to join its team. Abiitan, an entrance deposit community, consists of approximately 86 independent living residences, as well as an additional floor of residences for those requiring memory care.


Ecumen creates home for older adults wherever they choose to live and Abiitan is the newest and most innovative senior living concept in the upper Midwest. Abiitan will offer its residents the pinnacle of service and location. Abiitan is one block from the Mississippi river, 2 blocks from the Guthrie theater, and just steps away from all the cultures, arts, and events that downtown living can offer. Abiitan will also offer a restaurant, a fully licensed bar, a coffee shop, a fitness center in collaboration with GWerx Fitness open to the public, two courtyard areas, and a rooftop patio facing downtown Minneapolis sky line.

The General Manager is responsible for managing the food and beverage operations within budget and to the highest levels of service. Ensuring excellent levels of internal and external customer service. Responsible for forecasting, planning and managing all aspects of food service.  The General Manager is responsible for both the front and back of the house as it relates to all aspects of food service.


Essential job responsibilities include:


  1. Works in conjunction with all members of the leadership team and staff ensuring that we consistently demonstrate the responsible service and sale of alcohol and all required staff are properly trained.

  2. Manages food service staff holding them accountable to the policies and procedures of the department.

  3. Continuously makes necessary improvements with menu design, purchasing goods and proactively responding to customer’s needs. Designs exceptional menus that enhance the dining experience for the people we service. Uses knowledge of nutrition, special diets and input from residents.

  4. Ensures quality meals are prepared, cooked, and served to residents, families, guests and employees.

  5. Ensures all customers, residents and patrons both internal and external feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.

  6. Assists all workers and positions in the dining department; identifies what needs to be done and assists as needed.

  7. Maintains a clean sanitary work area, complies with state and federal rules and regulations, and follows established policies, procedures and practices of the facility.

  8. Partners with department leaders to maintain awareness of facility special events and activities to ensure adequate product and labor are available.

  9. Prepares annual budget for department and operates within this budget.


General Manager-Food & Beverage

Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • High School graduate or GED
  • Certified Food Manager in accordance with MN Department of Health
  • Food service management experience
  • Current valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance (if applicable)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • Ability to follow all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility including but not limited to: Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy, HIPAA, Resident’s Bill of Rights, Universal Precaution, AWAIR, OSHA, Right to know, SDS, ADA, HUD Policy and Procedures, Fair Housing laws and regulations


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Management or similar
  • Previous experience in providing food service management to seniors
  • Previous experience in inventory control, food cost analysis, menu planning, event planning
